First Steps Childcare

First Steps Childcare is a childcare facility located in Utah’s Department of Health building in Salt Lake City. Prior to the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, First Steps Childcare provided childcare services almost exclusively to state employees and their families. Now, with our help they’ve expanded their services to a wider audience.

Project Overview

First Steps hired Upward Engine to help optimize their Google search exposure and help drive business from people and places they hadn’t needed to reach until being required to by the COVID-19 pandemic. They came to us with the goal of reaching full capacity with a waiting list within 6 months of beginning our engagement by aggressively advertising, marketing, and optimizing for search engines.

The Challenge

“We never had to market our services before COVID. We were at full capacity all of the time with the majority of our clients being employed within our building. The pandemic changed the way people work in our building, and they are able to work more from home and our traditional client just doesn’t have the same need for our services that they once did. Our Approach

We recommended comprehensive SEO and PPC campaigns, with local components to each. First Steps’ SEO campaign consists of technical website optimization and maintenance, aggressive link building, and strategic content production.
The Google Ads campaign was structured to reinforce brand presence on the SERP as well as find searchers who might not find First Steps organically. There was special focus on quality over quantity of phone calls and form fills.

Results

With steady and consistent work on both the organic and paid fronts, First Steps search presence and effectiveness grew steadily over time. Deeper keyword representation, more traffic, and efficient ad spend was the name of the game.
