At Upward Engine, we build everything we do on relationships. A few years ago, we started a tradition to celebrate them: we rent out a private theater just for our clients and their families. This year, we did it again, and honestly, we threw our best one yet. Here is a look at who these nights are for, why we host them, and how we pull them off.
Inside This Year’s Client Movie Night
What does a client appreciation event look like when you plan it for the clients? For us, it looks like a private theater, a packed house, and Spider-Man greeting families at the door.
Spider-Man himself welcomed guests of all ages the moment they arrived. Kids, and plenty of adults, lined up to snap pictures and strike their best superhero poses with the hero himself. Then everyone grabbed snacks and settled into their seats in our private theater.
Before the movie, we kicked things off with a raffle. Every guest, kids included, held a ticket and a chance to win. Our team spent weeks putting the prizes together, and the room buzzed as we called each winner up.
As guests headed out, they each picked up a one-of-a-kind cup custom-made by the Upward Engine team. The fun souvenir featured a special Spider-Man themed mash-up of our Upward Engine logo, packed with glowing lights and sweet treats to take home!

Who We Host Our Client Appreciation Event For
We host this event for our clients, plain and simple. The business owners and teams we work with all year long, and just as importantly, the people they love.
We tell every client to bring their family, their employees, whoever makes their world go around, because the people behind a business always add up to more than the person we email every week.
That is honestly our favorite part. We spend all year talking with our clients about goals and growth, and then for one night, we get to meet their kids, laugh with their spouses, and watch a movie next to the whole crew. Every client pours time, resources, and trust into the work we do together, and we host this night for every one of them.
Why We Host a Client Appreciation Event Every Year
Client appreciation events are everywhere. The difference between a memorable one and a forgettable one comes down to one question: did you plan it for the people attending, or for the company hosting it?
A logo on a banner does not build loyalty. A night your clients actually look forward to, especially one with no sales pitch, no agenda, and nothing expected in return.
Our mission is to help businesses build momentum toward the goals that matter to them, and real relationships power all of it. A night like this gives us one small way to say thank you. We want every guest to feel it the moment they walk in: we planned this night just for you, because you matter to us.
How We Make Our Client Movie Night Happen
Want to pull off a movie night of your own? Here is the playbook we follow every year.
Start with a movie people actually want to see. This is the single biggest decision. Pick a title your guests are already excited about, and the invite practically sells itself. A blockbuster everyone is talking about beats a niche favorite every time.
Book the theater early. Private theater rentals go fast, especially around big releases. Call your local theater a few months out and ask about private event packages. Most have one, and they are often more affordable than you would guess.
Add a surprise element. This is where the fun is. A character greeting guests at the door, a raffle before the previews, a small souvenir on the way out. It does not have to be fancy, it just has to be unexpected. We make our take-home cups by hand, and they are a hit precisely because they are a little homemade.
Give everyone on your team a job. Popcorn duty, raffle runner, photo wrangler. A packed theater keeps every one of us moving all night, but when your whole crew knows their role ahead of time, guests only see the fun part.
Do a walkthrough before the big night. Visit the theater ahead of time and trace the evening from the front doors to the credits. Ten minutes of walking the space saves you a dozen surprises later.
Start planning the next one. After you go home and recover from an awesome, exhausting (in the best way) night, wake up the next morning and get right back to work on the next one. Start with a debrief while everything is fresh: what worked, what you would tweak, and what your guests could not stop talking about. That list becomes your head start, because trust us, there will be a next one.
What Makes a Client Appreciation Event Worth Remembering?
The best client appreciation events keep clients at the center from start to finish. Choose something people already care about, welcome the whole family, sweat the small details, and leave the sales pitch at the door.
To everyone who joined us this year: thank you! What began a few years ago has become something our clients look forward to and plan around, and we’re proud to call it an annual tradition. Seeing the theater filled with new and familiar faces never gets old, and we’re already counting down to next year. Ready to build momentum with a team that puts relationships first? Contact Upward Engine today to talk about your business goals—and maybe we’ll see you at our next movie night!
